The Arizona Republic reported last week that once again a case of drunken air-rage led to a flight being diverted for an emergency landing. Two drunken British women went on a rampage on a charter plane, hitting
one flight attendant with a bottle of vodka and trying to open a cabin
door as the aircraft was cruising over Austria at 32,800 feet... The rampage occurred when a flight attendant denied the women
alcohol because they were visibly intoxicated, police said. The
26-year-old took a swipe at a cabin attendant with a bottle of vodka,
then attempted to open a cabin door.
This story raises a number of questions. First, was it one of those little mini-bottles of vodka? Second, when will our government and air travel officials learn? Last month, SAFER called for marijuana lounges in airports nationwide after federal prosecutors expressed concern over the growing number of alcohol-related incident taking place on commercial flights. Government officials shrugged off the suggestion, though, and it appears as if these incidents will just keep occurring with no end in sight.
