UPDATE: A New York Times story about Ken that had been in the works for the past week has finally been published. UPDATE: More stories about Ken appeared this past week in the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post, as well as this one and this one on the local CBS affiliate. On the evening of Saturday, Feb. 17, longtime Colorado marijuana activist Ken Gorman was shot and killed during what was initially reported as a robbery of his home in Denver. You can find articles and stories about the incident here , here , and here.
Ken was best known for leading the traditional 4/20 rally in
front of the State Capitol Building each year, as well as his run at
becoming the nation's first "Pot Governor." He was also incredibly kind
and extremely helpful to many Coloradans who relied on him for safe
access to medical marijuana following the passage of Amendment 20 in
2000. We have no doubt that Initiative 100 in Denver -- and Amendment
44 statewide -- picked up hundreds if not thousands of votes purely as
a result of Ken's immense and devoted network of friends and fans. We are shocked and saddened to hear the news of Ken's untimely
passing, and our deepest condolences go out to his
family, his friends, and anyone else who had the pleasure of making his
acquaintance.
