In May 2007, Citizens for a Safer Denver kicked off a petition drive to place a new citywide measure on the
November 2007 ballot in Denver. The initiative would create a city
ordinance designating private adult marijuana possession Denver's
lowest law enforcement priority. Just 30 days later, the proponents submitted a petition with more than 10,500 signatures to the Denver Election Commission --more than twice the number necessary to qualify for the ballot. Election officials verified the new Denver initiative petition on July 23rd, and on July 24th the measure was transmitted to the Denver City Council for its consideration. It will now be assigned to a committee, and then it will be presented to the entire council, at which time it will either be enacted or referred to the November ballot.

This
initiative campaign is a project of the SAFER Voter Education Fund. We
encourage you to consider helping out the campaign by visiting Citizens for a Safer Denver
to sign up as a volunteer or make a financial contribution. With your
help we can end arrests for adult marijuana possession in Colorado's
capital city and make Denver SAFER!
