Contact your senators about HEA reform

Long story short: there is a stupid federal law on the books that strips financial aid from students in college who are charged with ANY drug offense, including possession of small amounts of marijuana.

SAFER is among the many organizations that have signed on in opposition to this law, and, thanks to the efforts of the Coalition for Higher Education Act Reform (CHEAR), Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) and the Drug Reform Coordination Network (DRCnet), the law is on its way to being repealed.

If you live in Colorado, you have the opportunity to help eliminate this ridiculous law by taking just a couple minutes to contact Colorado Sen. Wayne Allard, who sits on the HELP Committee and will have the opportunity to repeal the Higher Education Act Aid Elimination Penalty.

Call:  Sen. Wayne Allard, 202-224-5941
"Hello, my name is [first name], and I live in [city].  When the HELP committee revises the Higher Education Act, I hope Senator Allard will be support getting rid of the harmful law that takes away financial aid from college students with drug convictions.  This law simply blocks access to education and does nothing to reduce drug dependency."
