On Monday night the George Washington University Student Association Senate passed a resolution recognizing that marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and calling on the University to reduce its penalties for marijuana use so that they are no harsher than those for alcohol use. SAFER worked with the GW chapter of NORML to introduce the measure and will continue to work with these students to push for its implementation.
The Cannabis Alcohol Sanction Equalization (CASE) resolution was approved 11-7 with one member of the senate abstaining. The resolution will now be transmitted to school administrators and it will
be up to them to act on the recommendation of the student
representatives. Congratulations to the George Washington University NORML chapter on a job well done! We look forward to working with the chapter and GW administrators toward a more rational and safer marijuana and alcohol policy on campus. And, of course, we will be sure to post any updates on the GW SAFER campaign as we move forward. |
