The Lafayette City Council has postponed the workshop on marijuana that had been scheduled for today, Tuesday, April 3. It has yet to be rescheduled, but we will be monitoring the situation and will be sure to post updates as more news follows.
As we previously reported,
the Council had given its initial approval to a proposed ordinance that
would increase the fine and add the possibility of jail time for simple
possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. The measure was
withdrawn, however, after an overwhelming grassroots response, and
instead the Council scheduled a "workshop" on the issue. Now
they are postponing the workshop, and -- get this -- they told a member
of the press that it was because they hadn't had enough time to look
into the issue and get all the necessary info (they later said they had
a full agenda).
Gee, looking into the issue and
getting the necessary info... now why didn't think to do that BEFORE
giving initial approval to such a drastic and unnecessary measure... |
