SAFER began as a local organization based in Boulder, Colorado, which focused solely on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder and the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins.
SAFER relocated to Denver in June 2005, where it expanded its scope to include the City of Denver and surrounding areas.
Following the Denver initiative campaign, SAFER went national. It now works with college students around the nation and activists around the world to educate the public about the fact that marijuana is safer than alcohol, and to advocate for laws and policies that reflect that fact. SAFER has supporters in every state, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, France, and the United Kingdom.
