MYTH: Smoking marijuana can cause lung cancer and/or other cancers |
|
Myths vs. Facts
|
|
FACT: There has never been a documented case of lung cancer attributed to
marijuana use, nor is there evidence of any link between marijuana and
other cancers. Alcohol, on the other hand, has been linked to cancers
and is the direct cause of cirrhosis and liver disease. The U.S.
Centers for Disease Control reported that alcohol use alone contributed
to tens of thousands of deaths last year, compared to zero for
marijuana. Those tens of thousands would probably be alive had they
made the safer choice.
