(BP)--DENVER VOTES TO LEGALIZE MARIJUANA -– Even though Denver voters have approved an initiative that will make it legal for anyone 21 or older to possess 1 ounce or less of marijuana, local police say the ballot initiative is trumped by a state law banning the possession of marijuana, and they’ll continue to enforce the higher statute.

 It is important to note that the passage of this measure does NOT make marijuana possession “legal” in Denver.  The state law making possession of less than an ounce of marijuana a Class 2 petty offense, punishable by a fine of $100, is still fully operative in Denver.
