Cartels Buy Info on President Calderon's Travels and Murder Soldiers

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today a group of law enforcement officials said that the only way to stop the continual corruption of the Mexican military by violent cartels is to legalize and regulate drugs. The call for an end to prohibition comes in response to news that an army officer in Mexican's presidential guard received $100,000 a month from the cartels in exchange for information on the whereabouts of the country's president, Felipe Calderon.

Cops Say Legalizing Drugs Can Boost Economy by Billions

75th Anniversary of Alcohol Prohibition’s End Inspires Modern Effort

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Tuesday, December 2, a group of law enforcers who fought on the front lines of the “war on drugs” and witnessed its failures will commemorate the 75th anniversary of alcohol prohibition’s repeal by calling for drug legalization. The cops, judges and prosecutors will release a report detailing how many billions of dollars can be used to boost the ailing economy when drug prohibition is ended.

Repeal Prohibition Now!

December is the 75th anniversary of when America's leaders had the good sense to end alcohol prohibition. Today, we have another ineffective, harmful and expensive prohibition, the "war on drugs." LEAP has made it easy for you to take action and let your legislators know that we can't afford prohibition in these tough economic times. Visit www.WeCanDoItAgain.net for more information

Legalized Regulation of all Drugs!

COPS SAY LEGALIZE DRUGS!
ASK US WHY
After nearly four decades of fueling the U.S. policy of a war on drugs with over a trillion tax dollars and 37 million arrests for nonviolent drug offenses, our confined population has quadrupled making building prisons the fastest growing industry in the United States. More than 2.2 million of our citizens are currently incarcerated and every year we arrest an additional 1.9 million more guaranteeing those prisons will be bursting at their seams. Every year we choose to continue this war will cost U.S. taxpayers another 69 billion dollars. Despite all the lives we have destroyed and all the money so ill spent, today illicit drugs are cheaper, more potent, and far easier to get than they were 35 years ago at the beginning of the war on drugs. Meanwhile, people continue dying in our streets while drug barons and terrorists continue to grow richer than ever before. We would suggest that this scenario must be the very definition of a failed public policy. This madness must cease!

US MA: Lawmen Decry New Mass Law That Decriminalizes Small Amounts Of Marijuana
The Republican, 31 Dec 2008 - BOSTON - Law enforcement officials say there are many loopholes, unintended consequences and other problems in the new law that decriminalizes the possession of small amounts of marijuana. The law replaces criminal penalties for possessing an ounce or less of marijuana with a civil fine of $100, about the same as getting a traffic ticket. Sixty-five percent of Massachusetts' voters approved the ballot law on Nov. 4, and it takes effect on Jan. 2.

Mexico: Strategies for Mexico's Drug War
Los Angeles Times, 30 Dec 2008 - STRATEGIES FOR MEXICO'S DRUG WAR Experts and Public Figures in the U.S. and Latin America Offer a Range of Views, From Stepped-Up Policing to Legalization. At times, the fight against drug trafficking in Mexico seems hopeless. The body count grows steadily, each massacre seemingly more gruesome than the one before. The flow of drugs to America and Europe continues virtually unabated. The Times asked experts and public figures in the U.S., Mexico and other parts of Latin America for their views on the problem and what should be done about it. The comments, compiled by Mexico City Bureau Chief Tracy Wilkinson, have been edited for space or clarity.

CN BC: Column: Doomed To Repeat History?
North Shore News, 17 Dec 2008 - The Drowsy Chaperone, that blowsy, buoyant, infectious smash hit at the Playhouse, is fuelled partly by the running joke of alcohol prohibition. It's set in 1928 and booze is why the Chaperone is always drowsy. The gathered wedding party is obviously indifferent to the law. The hostess and her butler/gofer discuss code words for drinks. Pretty much the way everyone today deals with marijuana: with a wink and a nudge.
