As a member and speaker for LEAP, our organization and I will continue to stand and deliver. It is with great sadness, anger and pity that I see the events ... Keeping Marc Emery in Canada Alison Myrden - Sunday, December 21 A few weeks ago in Canada we had an upset with our highly right wing conservative government. There was an attempt to challenge the government with the idea of a Liberal/NDP/Bloc Party coalition. These groups, I heard, had to receive the approval or support of the Separatist's in Quebec before ...

Canada: Little Bang For Enforcement Buck
National Post, 02 Jan 2009 - Costs, Return Of Street-Level Drug Arrests Questioned Following a two-day investigation in a neighbourhood in Scarborough, the vehicle of Denroy Wolcott was boxed in by four Toronto police cars and he was quickly arrested. US MA: Lawmen Decry New Mass Law That Decriminalizes Small Amounts Of Marijuana The Republican, 31 Dec 2008 - BOSTON - Law enforcement officials say there are many loopholes, unintended consequences and other problems in the new law that decriminalizes the possession of small amounts of marijuana. The law replaces criminal penalties for possessing an ounce or less of marijuana with a civil fine of $100, about the same as getting a traffic ticket. Sixty-five percent of Massachusetts' voters approved the ballot law on Nov. 4, and it takes effect on Jan. 2. Mexico: Strategies for Mexico's Drug War Los Angeles Times, 30 Dec 2008 - STRATEGIES FOR MEXICO'S DRUG WAR Experts and Public Figures in the U.S. and Latin America Offer a Range of Views, From Stepped-Up Policing to Legalization. At times, the fight against drug trafficking in Mexico seems hopeless. The body count grows steadily, each massacre seemingly more gruesome than the one before. The flow of drugs to America and Europe continues virtually unabated. The Times asked experts and public figures in the U.S., Mexico and other parts of Latin America for their views on the problem and what should be done about it. The comments, compiled by Mexico City Bureau Chief Tracy Wilkinson, have been edited for space or clarity. CN BC: Column: Doomed To Repeat History? North Shore News, 17 Dec 2008 - The Drowsy Chaperone, that blowsy, buoyant, infectious smash hit at the Playhouse, is fuelled partly by the running joke of alcohol prohibition. It's set in 1928 and booze is why the Chaperone is always drowsy. The gathered wedding party is obviously indifferent to the law. The hostess and her butler/gofer discuss code words for drinks. Pretty much the way everyone today deals with marijuana: with a wink and a nudge.
